Getting Involved

St. Nic’s encourages and values student involvement – so whatever your talents, gifts and skills, there are plenty of ways to get involved with both the church and local community. Below are just a few main of the areas which welcome new faces. For more information about each area, check out the relevant sections of the main website, and if you don’t know who someone is, either ask a member of the Student Ministry Team or contact them via the Church Office.

Children’s/Youth Work

Students regularly help out with the youth and children’s programmes which run on a Sunday morning during the 10.15 service. There are also various events and groups which run during the week. For more information get in touch with Simon Hill, the Youth & Children’s Work Co-ordinator.

Music

The music for the 10.15 and 6.15 services is organised and played by the Music Group, who meet on a Friday evening, and are co-ordinated by Chris Wagstaffe.

The 7pm service has a Worship Band. They currently meet on a Wednesday night and are led by Jane Todd and Jim Daniel.

Both the Music Group and Band welcome new members. Either catch Chris, Jane or Jim at Church or contact them via the Office.

PA & AV

Public Address and Audio Visual operators play an important part in each service, if you feel you’d like to get involved in this way, contact Dave Lucas (PA) or Brian Hill (AV), who can arrange for you to be trained and familiarised with the relevant equipment.

Stewarding/Helping at Services

We always need students to help out before, during and after services – particularly the 7pm service. In particular we need volunteers to help at the student suppers, welcome people on the door before the service, and to serve tea/coffee/cake after the service. To find out more or be added to a rota for any of these things, get in touch with one of the Service Reps.

Community Coffee Lounge

Throughout the week Nic’s is open as a café for anyone to drop in and have a chat and a coffee. The main aim of the Coffee Lounge is to provide a friendly welcome and warm hospitality, and to share God’s love. It is becoming known as a place where everyone is welcomed and accepted, regardless of background, lifestyle or circumstances. Guests are shoppers, tourists, visitors, and many people who simply spend time in the marketplace on a daily basis. Some come to have some respite from whatever is happening at home. Some come to escape from the silence and loneliness at home. A few have no home.

The lounge always needs new volunteers to serve tea and coffee and welcome visitors. Contact the church office for more information.

 Amigos

Amigos is run at Nic’s with Andrew Trigger of Friends International and is an opportunity for international students to relax and make friends in an informal environment. The group meets in Nic’s on a Wednesday evening and also goes on trips and short holidays. Amigos is always looking for new volunteers to help welcome and befriend international students. For more information contact Andrew at andrew.trigger@friendsinternational.org.uk
