We're Hiring a Cafe Manager!

St Nics has a home in the centre ground of evangelical Anglicanism in the heart of the City of Durham. As part of the Church of England we have a diverse community of 300 regular Sunday attenders across all ages. Since 2021 we have employed a Social Justice Enabler to oversee new justice initiatives in our church ministry, and the St Nics Café is the latest of these. The vision of the St Nics Café is to serve the city of Durham as a Social Justice Hub, listening to the needs of the people in our local community and offering a gateway to services for those in need. We have an exciting new opportunity for a capable and hardworking manager to join the team at the beginning of this strategic new venture.

What is Durham like?

Durham is a compact, vibrant, university city with ancient streets, many bridges over the winding River Wear and a magnificent Norman cathedral. It has a rich cultural heritage and great modern amenities such as gyms, cinemas, shops, restaurants, and theatre venues. We benefit from being a twelve minute train ride away from the centre of Newcastle with all the advantages that a large city can offer. (And it is merely three hours to London.) The North East has vast dramatic countryside to explore and from Durham it is half an hour away from the coast and many beaches.

What is St Nics like?

St Nics is a church for everyone. We are right in the heart of Durham, in the Market Place. We have a real heart to reach out and serve our city and beyond. Just as we are a gathered congregation of roughly 300, so Durham city centre is a place where people gather from all over.

Our quirky Victorian building has had many adaptations over the years and we are currently in the process of creating a permanent café space in the Lower Hall. Our wonderful purpose built Youth Centre, a short walk away from the church, is also just metres away from the 6 the form college, has outside space and bags of potential too!
