Students
St. Nics is at the heart of the City of Durham and we value students as members of our congregation. St. Nic's is not just a student church, it’s a place to meet Christians of all ages and from all walks of life.
To further integrate students into the church we have a range of student related activities: Stubs, Suppers, Alpha, Service, Student Link Up and a Weekend away.
Check out the socials page for the latest social activities.
There is also a student ministry team (SMT) which aims to integrate students into the life of the church.
Services
Students are welcome at all of our services, each has distinctive feel to it. The 9:15am is a family affair and is particularly good for meeting people who aren't here studying. Also in the morning is the 11am. Later on in the evening are two services: a more traditional one at 5pm and the 7pm with more modern worship (which the largest number of students come to).
SMT
Made up of students from Nics, we aim to create a friendly atmosphere where students can feel free to build relationship and worship together.
Feel free to contact Naomi for any information at st.nics.studentministry@googlemail.com
In addition the Church staff member who supports SMT and co-ordinates the churches work with students is Revd. Lindsey Goodhew and she can be contacted on ljegoodhew@googlemail.com.
Student Bible Study (Stubs)
Featuring some of the finest cake Durham has to offer is our Monday evening Bible study. Meet at 7:30pm in Nics during term time for some friendly exploration of the Bible.
Student Suppers
During term time we meet in the hall upstairs for food before the 7 o’clock service. Come to the side door from 5:45pm for some supper and friendship before church.
Service
We love people to get involved in the life of the church. If you want to contribute to the music, tea/coffee after services, stewarding and welcoming, av, student meals, youth and children’s work, Market Place Project, reading/leading prayers, or feel you want to serve the church in any other way please contact Anna on a.c.s.lucas@durham.ac.uk
Student Alpha
We would like to welcome students who are exploring the Christian faith to come along on Wednesdays to discuss who this Jesus character is and what that means for us now. The student alpha coursewill start on Wednesday 27th January and will be held in St John's College. Contact Lindsey Goodhew (ljegoodhew@googlemail.com ) or the SMT (st.nics.studentministry@googlemail.com ) or the Church Office for more information.
Student Link Up
An initiative to link up students with other members of the congregation. A list for people who want to participate will go up in the first few weeks of the first term.
Student weekend away
A fun packed and relaxing weekend at the end of the second term. All students are welcome to burst the Durham bubble and escape to the countryside with us for some bible study and fellowship. This year we are going to Knock Christian Centre near Appleby, the dates: 19th - 21st March. Look out for flyers with more details at the Sunday services.
