Durham Cathedral
You can't come to Durham without going to see Durham Cathedral. It's the focal point for Christian Worship in the Diocese of Durham. Founded in 1093, this is one of the finest Norman architectural Cathedrals in Europe. It's a shrine to St. Cuthbert and it houses the Treasures of St. Cuthbert displaying valuable and beautiful objects representing 900 years of this Cathedrals history. Durham Castle and Durham Cathedral are World Heritage Sites.

Durham Castle
Built around 1072, it was the seat of the Prince Bishops until 1836. It has now become University College, the foundation College for Durham University. Guided tours of the castle are available . Durham Castle and Durham Cathedral are World Heritage Sites.

Museum of Archaeology (The Old Fulling Mill)
Situated on the bank of the River Wear, directly below the west end of the Cathedral. Housing exhibits dug up by local archaeologists, documenting Durham's people from the Prehistoric to Medieval times.
Due to the location of the Museum, disabled access is difficult and is limited to the ground floor only.

Durham Botanic Garden
18 acres of trees and shrubs from around the world, grown in natural setting since 1970. Also includes the Prince Bishops Garden, Tropical House and Visitors Centre.

Oriental Museum
The only museum in the country devoted to Oriental art and antiques. The museum covers all major cultures and periods of the East - Ancient Egypt, India, Tibet, China and Japan. Also displays temporary exhibition throughout the year.
Wheelchair access is limited within the museum.

The Durham Light Infantry Museum and Art Gallery
The museum traces the history of the DLI from 1758 to 1968 with uniforms, weapons, photographs etc.
The Art Gallery has a ever changing programme of exhibitions throughout the year. The ground are also use for brass band concerts and a military vehicle rally on August Bank Holiday Monday.

The gardens provide a display of gardening styles from formal beds to a water garden, arboretum and woodland garden.
