More about the new 'Vision Group'
Steve Bellamy outlines details of the new
St. Nic's 'Vision Group'...
'This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how'
(Mark 4.26-27).
It’s fundamental to our calling at St.Nic’s to be mission-shaped – to serve, to welcome, to learn, to worship, to disciple, to transform communities. But in the next few years being ‘mission shaped’ may not look like quite like it does now, here, in February 2012. We must also be open to where God might be leading us in the future.
Well, as I mentioned a couple of Sundays ago, one of the ways I intend to explore where God might be leading our church is by setting up a new ‘Vision Group’. Vicki Mellor-Smith, Simon Hill, Jamie Harrison, Fi Cuthill, Phil Dawson, Kate Ross and Kate Macpherson and I will be meeting to pray, to dream dreams, to throw around ideas and most of all to seek God’s heart and purposes for his church here.
I’m not asking this group to provide a written report by a certain date and the idea is not that this group will come up with all the answers! What I do hope is that we can begin to get a sense of God’s priorities in mission for us in the medium to long term and how we can make best use of the rich resources that God has entrusted to us to fulfill these priorities. I hope this group will eventually be able to present, first through the PCC, some possibilities for us as a church to consider.
Please do feel free to contribute to the conversation by emailing the blog (members can log in for details of how to do so) or by outlining your ideas, hopes and dreams to a member of the Vision Group. Most of all, do pray for the group as we meet and pray together. Pray that the Holy Spirit will give St Nic’s vision and wisdom as we as a church seek God’s will for his future mission here.
